Helping make Long Beach A Better Place for All
I Don’t Have to Die Alone
When Gil left the hospital he had no place to go. Although suffering from lung cancer that has spread throughout his body, he was too well to stay at the hospital yet couldn’t get into a hospice. Fortunately, Gil found Long Beach Rescue Mission.
There are thousands of people every night in the greater Long Beach area who are in need of a safe place to sleep and warm meals. Gil is just one example of the thousands who find that safety each year at Long Beach Rescue Mission. While many are dealing with drugs and alcohol, many are like Gil who simply had no place to go.
“The staff at Long Beach Rescue Mission has helped me a lot,” says Gil, “. . . helped me understand the Scriptures I’ve been reading . . .helped me wrestle with my anger. This place has brought me closer to my family. My son says he doesn’t have to worry about me while I’m here. This place has encouraged me because I know that I don’t have to die alone.”
At Samaritan House, our men’s shelter program, more than 120 men are receiving mission services on any given day. We provide emergency shelter, food and clothing to those who are dealing with homelessness. All of our services are free of charge thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
It’s through the partnership of the Long Beach community that men like Gil are able to stay off the dangerous streets and get the help they need through the ministry of Long Beach Rescue Mission. If you would like to help provide safe shelter for men like Gil click here.
Every evening at 7 pm and every Sunday morning at 10:30 am, Long Beach Rescue Mission invites our guests and members of the community to join us for worship. Several churches in the Long Beach area are involved in this community outreach program, joining us at the Mission to conduct services and help serve meals. Contact our volunteer department if you or your church would like to be involved on a regular basis.
